Camden Hills Regional High School, SAD 28 hire new assistant superintendent

    CAMDEN — The Five Town CSD Board of Directors has hired a new assistant superintendent of the Five Town CSD (Camden Hills Regional High School) and School Administrative District 28 (Camden-Rockport K-8).

    Gary Gonyar replaces Maria Libby, who served in that position for two years before accepting the position of Superintendent of Schools for the districts. They both start their new positions July 1.

    Gonyar will be paid $110,500, plus health insurance, this coming year. 

    Gonyar graduated from the University of Maine in 1981 with a bachelor’s of science in business administration. He began teaching mathematics in 1984.

    Over a span of 18 years, he taught and coached at East Grand High School, Penobscot Valley High School, Orono Jr./Sr. High School, and Brewer Middle School. He received a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Maine in 2002 and served for two years as the principal of Pendleton Street and Capri Street schools in Brewer.

    Gonyar served as the principal of the Holbrook School in Holden for four years and spent the last seven years as the principal of the William S. Cohen School in Bangor.

    He recently earned a C.A.S. from the University of Maine in educational leadership with an emphasis on district leadership. He currently serves as an adjunct professor at UMaine in the ed leadership program.

    Gonyar is married and has three grown sons. He and his wife, Wynnonalee, recently welcomed their first grandchild into the family.

    Gonyar loves to hike, bike, camp, and visit National Parks with his family. He said in an April 23 press release he is, “is thrilled to become part of the Five Town CSD and SAD 28 teams and looks forward to many years of service to the students in the communities that make up the districts.”
