Camden Hills Regional High School Crockett Trail 5K to inaugurate new running path

Mon, 10/02/2017 - 6:15pm

ROCKPORT — On Saturday morning, Oct. 7, the inaugural Crockett Trail 5K will be held as the first public race on the recently constructed Camden Hills Regional High School trail.

Crockett Trail is named after Penny and Charlie Crockett, who served the high school as teachers, coaches and mentors for a combined 69 years. The trail will be dedicated to the Crockets during half-time of the girls varsity soccer game on Saturday at approximately 1:40 p.m. as part of Homecoming festivities.

The cross-country course will actually see its first use on Thursday, October 5, at 4 p.m. for a middle school cross-country meet, then on Friday the CHRHS Windjammers will kick off their first home meet of the season with a ribbon cutting ceremony by the Senior runners at 3:45 p.m. followed by the meet at 4:00.

The Crockett Trail 5K is a 2-loop course that winds through almost a mile of woods on school property and then along the grass of the ball fields on either side of the track. The mult-iuse trail includes a nature trail that features interpretive signage for 25 different plant species, and in winter it will serve as a Nordic ski trail for the high school team and for the public.

Registration for the Crocket Trail 5K begins at 7:30 a.m. with a start time set at 8 a.m. Cost for adults is $15 and $10 for students with all proceeds going toward ongoing trail maintenance. Prizes will be awarded to the top runners after the race. For more information on the race, contact Helen Bonzi at helen.bonzi@fivetowns.net.
