Camden Hills hockey team, players recognized at Class B North Hockey Banquet

BREWER — Camden Hills hockey team and five team members were recognized with several awards at the Class B North Hockey Banquet on March 19 at Jeff's Catering in Brewer.

• 2016-17 Class B North Hockey Season:
4th Team Forward - Will Davee
4th Team Defenseman - Dan Lydon
Honorable Mention Team - Perrin Ganter
All Academic Team - Kieran Lydon
All Rookie Team - Matt Czuchra
Team Sportsmanship Award - Camden Hills Hockey Team

Awards were based on voting by Class B North coaches.

Senior forward Will Davee was named as a forward to the 4th Team, Davee had 7 goals and 8 assists in 18 regular season games. He led the Windjammers in assists. and was an outstanding two-way player and shot blocking specialist, Davee also added assist in the 3-2 overtime loss to Old Town/Orono in the quarterfinal playoff game. Davee was selected to the Senior All-Star game, played March 18 at Norway Savings Bank Arena In Auburn. Class B South won the very competitive game 6-5 in an overtime shoot-out.

Junior defense Dan Lydon was named to the 4th team as a defenseman. Lydon was a shutdown defender for the Windjammers all season, and came back from a bruised kidney suffered half-way through the season, to help the Windjammers make into the playoffs. Lydon had 3 goals in 14 regular season games and added an assist in the 3-2 quarterfinal loss to Old Town/Orono.

Senior forward Perrin Ganter was selected to the Honorable Mention Team. Ganter had 11 goals and 4 assists in 17 regular season games. Ganter led the Windjammers with 5 power play goals and was an excellent center man throughout the 2016-17 season.

Senior forward Kieran Lydon was named to the All-Academic Team for outstanding academics and hockey play. Lydon suffered a shoulder separation in the pre-season and came back to play half the season. A speedy forward and top penalty killer for the Windjammers, Lydon had 4 goals and 4 assists in 10 games played, and also added a goal in the quarterfinal playoff loss to Old Town/Orono.

Junior goalie Matt Czuchra was selected to the All-Rookie Team. In his first varsity season, Czuchra made 445 saves posting a Goals-Against Average of 3.94, with a save percentage of .892 and 1 shut out in 12 games played during the regular season. Czuchra had a memorable shut out with a 55-save performance that resulted in a 0-0 tie against Old Town/Orono on Feb. 17. In the quarterfinal playoff game against Old town/Orono, Czuchra once again was spectacular, making several outstanding saves and stopping 34 shots in 3-2 overtime loss.

Camden Hills Hockey Team was presented with the 2016-17 Team Sportsmanship Award. This is Camden Hills’ fourth total Sportsmanship Team award and first in Class B North. Camden Hills was re-aligned to Class B North Hockey Conference in the 2015-16 season. Camden Hills hockey was recognized with Sportsmanship Awards in Class B West Conference in 2008-09, 2012-13, 2013-14.
