LINCOLNVILLE BEACH – The weather could not have been more perfect for a polar plunge: 27 degrees, snowing and the wind had turned Penobscot Bay into an uneasy chop that broke onto Lincolnville Beach. In short, it was miserable outside.

That didn't stop Nancy Rowe, Camden Hills Regional High School Band Director, from taking the plunge to support the student scholarships for the band and chorus trip to New York City this April.

Along with Chorus Director Kim Murphy the two had earlier took to All-Play in Belfast for a "Bowl-off," the winner determined by the total amount of money raised along with the bowling score.

The winner got to stay warm and dry onshore. The loser... well, that's where the polar plunge comes in.

A crowd cheered, the theme from Rocky played in the background and Rowe trotted off into the icy water. After a quick plunge, she emerged cold and shivering and was quickly wrapped in blankets, but she beat old man winter to emerge victorious and secure in the fact that money had been raised.

In April, the CHRHS Bands and Choruses will be traveling to New York City to participate in the Heritage Music Festival – a national festival, in which they will compete opposite other ensembles, and work with nationally known adjudicators. In preparation for this trip, the Band and Chorus have been holding fundraisers.

Students held an online auction in February.

The HS offers many classes in its performing arts program both music and vocal. Choral, Honors Chamber Singers, Honors Music Theory, Intro to Piano/Music Theory, Honors Women's Choir and Jazz Ensemble.
