CAMDEN — A fire that broke out in a garage attic at 7 Arey Ave. in Camden just before 7 a.m. Monday morning was quickly extinguished by Camden firefighters soon after they arrived.

Mutual aid from Hope, Lincolnville and Rockport arrived to help Camden as needed. Several firefighters spent 30 minutes in the eaves, rooting out any leftover smoldering wood.

The fire started at an electrical outlet in the downstairs of the garage, over a workbench, said Camden Fire Chief Chris Farley.

When Camden Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Lowe and a crew of firefighters with Engine 4 arrived, flames were growing in the garage and creeping into the attic through a small hole in the ceiling.

There were no injuries, but North East Mobile Health Services remained on standby, as did Camden police.

Knox Regional Communications Center put out the call at 6:56 a.m., March 5, and firefighters from Camden and the surrounding towns moved engines to the scene within minutes. The fire was knocked down within 15 minutes but there lingering smoke kept them on Arey Ave for another 45 minutes.
