The third-seeded Boothbay Region High School field hockey team improved to 13-2 on the season with a 2-1 victory over the visiting sixth-seeded Mt. View Mustangs in a Class C North quarterfinal match-up on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

The Seahawks will now face the second-seeded Dexter Tigers, also 13-2, in a semifinal game in Dexter on Friday, Oct. 20 at 3 p.m. Dexter won its quarterfinal game, 7-0, over seventh-seeded Orono on Wednesday.

Boothbay put the first score on the high school’s new portable field hockey and softball scoreboard when sophomore Hali Goodwin passed to senior tri-captain and leading scorer Sydney Meader in the scoring circle. Meader drove the ball past Mustang goalie Alexis Bowman from about five feet in front of the goal.

The goal held up for the first half, but the Mustangs scored early in the second half when Devon Burgess scored after a flurry of passes in front of the goal at the 26:07 mark.

Less than three minutes later, Meader gave Boothbay the lead back when she carried the ball for about 40 yards and fired a shot past Bowman at the 23:50 mark.

From there, both teams had a few shots on goal but they were either stopped or went wide of the goal.

Boothbay had eight shots on goal and led in penalty corners, 12 to 5. Mt. View, which finished 6-9 on the season, had two shots on goal.
