CAMDEN — Bonnie Cahill Gallagher, 50, of Camden, passed away Sept. 25, 2014, at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough after a short, valiant fight with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Bonnie was fortunate to be surrounded by love in her final days as her husband, children, parents, brothers, sister-in-law and a cousin made the trek from away to Maine to be by her side, including her devoted brother, Tim, who spend the last few weeks by her side.

Bonnie was born Feb. 18, 1964, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., and was the daughter of William and Joyce Cahill. She lived her younger life in Syracuse and attended Bishop Grimes High School. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in education from St. Bonaventure University in 1986 and her master’s degree from Boston College after that. She lived for a time in Boston, Mass., where she met her husband, Tim Gallagher. They spent many weekends vacationing in Maine, while trying to find a way to make a permanent move to their favorite place.

In 1995, they found the opportunity to move to Maine and followed their friends, Jo and Tim Doran, to beautiful Camden by the sea. Bonnie and Tim married in July 1996 at Our Lady of Good Hope Church in Camden and together raised their children, Jack and Meghan, in the most beautiful town in coastal Maine. Several years later their friends, Anne and Rob Krieg, made the move to Maine as well, and the three Syracuse friends and their families maintained a long friendship.

Bonnie was an avid soccer and running fan and shared her love and passion with her children. When her young children began playing soccer, Bonnie was the first parent to sign up to coach Jack's and Megan's teams with the Pen Bay Soccer Club, and later with the co-ed team at Camden Rockport Middle School. When Bonnie was not coaching on the local soccer fields, she could be found running the streets and hills of Camden preparing for marathons in Boston, Vermont and Maine. Bonnie was proud to be part of the Camden Snow Bowl ski patrol. She was a devoted and caring math teacher at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast for the past 15 years. She was famous for her compassion for her students and excellence in her teaching.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Tim; her children, Jack and Meghan; her parents, William and Joyce Cahill; and her three brothers, William and his wife, Pamela, Robert and his wife, Kate, and her younger brother, Timothy. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Linda Gallagher and Kathleen Gallagher Alaniz; as well as her brother-in-law, James Gallagher. She had many nieces and nephews, as well as her long-time friends, Anne Krieg and Jo Anne Doran.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, Sept. 28 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St. in Camden. The funeral mass will be held Monday, Sept. 2 at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Hope Church, 7 Union St. Camden. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden.

If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the Bonnie C. Gallagher Memorial Fund, c/o TD Bank, 89 Elm St., Camden, ME 04843.
