Belfast Marine Institute students in Genna Black and Chip Lagerbom's Marine Studies class recently began their safety certification Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor training with John Macmillian.

One aspect of the safety course is learning how to fill your pants to become a flotation device. Others are to protect your face from waves, toxic chemicals and other things in the water while remaining afloat.

Students also worked on becoming more comfortable in a water situation and how to tread water for a set amount of time.
