Bangor Savings Bank Foundation awards YMCA $5000 grant

ROCKLAND — The Penobscot Bay YMCA has been delighted to keep the Flanagan Community Center in Rockland open this summer. Through the generosity of the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation which awarded a $5,000 grant for being a 2017 Community Matters More winner. With thousands of votes cast by the people of Maine during the Community Matters More campaign, the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation has donated more than $10,000 to Maine-based nonprofit organizations throughout the State. In addition, the YMCA was successful raising financial support through numerous donations from individuals and businesses within the community.

Summer hours are Monday - Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Open gymnasium time, weight room and game room time are available to the community. In addition, the Y and the Flanagan Community Center have hosted numerous sports camps throughout the summer, including the Mid-Coast Basketball Camp for players ranging from kindergarten to 8th grade and will be run by Coach Breen, his staff, and players. Mid-Coast Girls Basketball camp for girls ranging from 3rd grade to 8th grade and run by the varsity coaching staff of both Oceanside H.S. and Camden Hills Regional H.S. Wrapping up the Y's Basketball the summer offerings was the Teer Basketball Training Program, a co-ed offered to athletes ranging from 4th grade to 12th grade.

Sign-ups are underway now for the fall Youth Soccer program for grades K-6. In addition, there will be a free Art Workshop as well as Adult Volleyball and Adult basketball for men and women.
