Autumn-like storm kicking up a little commotion on the Midcoast

Sun, 06/28/2015 - 3:15pm

A few limbs and trees have dropped on roofs and across roads this afternoon, courtesy of a cold and windy rainstorm that will continue to move south to north along the Maine coast this afternoon. Meteorologists are describing it as autumn-like, with a cold front that has dipped down from Canada, spreading deep into the southern U.S. states.

In Rockland, the city’s fire department responded to 104 Limerock Street at 1:30 p.m. where a large tree branch fell onto a roof.. Rockland's Tower 3 ladder truck was used to place a tarp over the damaged portion of the roof.

In Hope, firefighters tended to a tree that had fallen and closed the Alfred Lake Road at approximately 2:30 p.m. Central Maine Power restored the line.

The National Weather Service reports that easterly winds will continue at 20 to 30 knots, with higher gusts, for the rest of the afternoon before diminishing tonight. Seas are running 9 to 14 feet offshore and three to five feet on Penobscot Bay.

Temperatures are in the 50s, and the soaking rain is expected to continue into this evening, as well.
