ROCKLAND — The Knox County Grand Jury met for one day and handed down five indictments Oct. 2. The indictments include nine counts against five defendants, including two inmates at the Maine State Prison. An indictment does not imply guilt.

Daniel Robert Chamberland, 28, of the Maine State Prison, in Warren, was indicted for assault on May 17, 2016, in Warren. Chamberland was previously convicted of criminal threatening on June, 13, 2012, in Androscoggin County Superior Court and on Dec., 3, 2012, in Lewiston District Court.

Pomphile A. Fontaine, 33, of Hope, was indicted for Class C felony domestic violence assault on May 7, 2017, in Hope; Class B tampering with a victim on May 8 in Hope; and Class C domestic violence assault on Dec. 4, 2015, in Hope. Fontaine was previously convicted of domestic violence assault on May 16, 2013, in Rockland District Court.

Scott D. Knowlton, 50, of Carthage, was indicted for Class B negotiating a worthless instrument on Jan. 11, 2017, in Friendship. He is charged with intentionally issuing a check for $27,009 payable to New Moon Fisheries, drawn on TD Bank, knowing it would not be honored, according to the indictment.

Andrew Maurice Langley, 21, of the Maine State Prison, in Warren, was indicted for Class A aggravated assault on Feb. 20, 2017, in Warren. He is charged with causing bodily injury to another prisoner that caused serious and permanent disfigurement, according to the indictment.

Wesley Shane Williams, 27, of St. George, was indicted for three counts of Class B assault on three different corrections officers on May 26, 2017, in Rockland. He had three prior domestic violence assault convictions in 2014, 2015 (both in Florida) and 2017 in Knox County.
