Annual Spring Ice show a skating masterpiece

    ROCKPORT – The Midcoast Recreation Center Skating School produced its first of two shows Saturday night to the thrill of a packed house.

    The Director’s Cut On Ice featured many local skaters showing their moves along with special guest Morgan Sewall of Scarborough, the 2015 New England Regional Senior Ladies Silver Medalist. Watching the 18 year old float around the ice with poise and grace far beyond her years one could see why.

    Along with Sewall the show featured graduating seniors Elena Laustsen a senior at Camden Hills and Ashley Pezanowski, a senior at Oceanside East in Rockland.

    Soloist are 10 year old Gail Curtis; 13 year old Greta Curtis; 17 year old Willow Grinnell; 16 year old Brynn Kooyenga; 17 year old Alexia Hilt; 16 year old Lily McVetty; 16 year old Cat Nguyen; 15 year old Kimberly Roman; 16 year old Jenna Taylor; and 13 year old Lexi Tinch.

    The rest of the Ice Show cast are; Mckenzie Abendroth, Elizabeth Aiken, Sophie Baker, Kira Bennett, Lydia Bragg, Lydia Butler, Ella Fleur Capetta, Melissa Emerson, Naomi Fisher, Juliana Haynes, Brooklyn Heal, Taylor Hodgdon, Rebecca Hotelling; Paloma Killoran, Margaret Kivus, Juliette Landry, Flynn Layton, Elizabeth Libby, Ava Mallow, Anna Metcalf, Maggie Metcalf, Amelia Mills, Lillian Nelson, Kaida Nguyen, Deb O’Leary, Sadie Olmsted, Graham Peebles, Scarlet Peebles, Adam Smith, Molly Spindler Smith, Lillian Walton-Griffin and Claire Wyman.

    The show directed by Molly Spindler Smith features a mixture of large groups, small groups, trio’s and soloist that run through a two act show in about two hours.

    The show features show tunes and modern pop that is sure to have you dancing in your seat.

    ACT 1
    First up was The Snowplow Sam and Basic 1 group performing to “Minions” from Despicable Me.

    Kimberly Roman skated to “Breakaway” from The Princess Diaries 2

    Lily McVetty skated to “Boom Clap” from The Fault in our Stars

    Basic 2 & 3 with Willow Grinnell as Elsa performed to “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” from Frozen

    Brynn Kooyenga skated to selections from “Lord of the Rings”

    Ashley Pezanowski skated to “Eyes Open” from the Hunger Games

    The Junior Line skated to “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire

    A small group, Grinnell, Kooyenga, Laustsen and McVetty performed to “Uptown Funk”

    Lexi Tinch skated to “Love Theme” from St. Elmo’s Fire

    Jenna Taylor and Adam Smith skated to “Moon River” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s

    Morgan Sewall skated to “Scheherazade” by Rimsky Korsakov

    The graduating seniors, Laustsen and Pezanowski skated to “Defying Gravity” from Wicked and Glee

    That was the first act and after a brief intermission the show continues with the flooding performances.

    ACT 2
    The Ice Dance, “Tango De Roxanne” from Moulin Rouge opened the second act.

    Willow Grinnell skated to “Dancing Queen” from Mamma Mia

    The trio of Roman, Tinch and Adam Smith skated to “Austin Powers” from Austin Powers

    Elena Laustsen skated to “New Your State of Mind” from Men in Black 2

    Basic 4, 5, and 6 skated to the “Harry Potter Theme”

    Cat Nguyen skated to “Did I Miss It?” from Water for Elephants

    Alexia Hilt performed to “All That Jazz” from Chicago

    Greta Curtis skated to “Forrest Gump Suite” from Forrest Gump

    Gail Gurtis skated to “Fate and Destiney/The Games” from Brave

    The Senior Line performed to “A little Party” from The Great Gatsby

    The shows finale performance came from special guest Morgan Sewall who skated to “Falling Slowly” by Glen Hansard, from the movie Once.

    The show will be presented again Sunday, March 29 at 2 p.m This is a show you do not want to miss.
