Alpine KVAC Skiing Championship first round

FARMINGTON — The boys and girls of the Camden Hills Alpine Ski Team took part in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Championship Slalom at Titcomb Mountain Saturday and schussed their way to some excellent results.

The Windjammer girls sliced and diced the tight turning SL course on the Otterslide trail and after day one of the two-day conference championship event are tied with Edward Little of Auburn, 48 points each, for first place among the 10 teams competing.

Audrey Heriz-Smith led the way for the 'Jammers with a blistering second run that landed her in third place with a time of 1:27.79. Rounding out the scoring for Camden Hills were Rennaisance Lyman in 13th (1:36.40), Brynne Wrona 15th (1:38.34), and Abby Chamberlin in 17th (1:41.58). Also skiing very well were 'Jammers Jessica Mann in 21st (1:44.36), Courtney King in 31st (1:52.67), Sydney White 36th (1:55.19) and Molly Mann 61st (2:33.69).

The Windjammer boys placed eighth among 12 teams with 'Jammer Sawyer King turning in one of his best performances of the year finishing in 12th place (1:30.10). Scoring for the 'Jammers were Simon Fedarko in 29th (1:44.70), Lucas Fischer in 36th (1:52.28) and David Flint in 51st (2:10.16). Henry Chamberlin was the 5th CHRHS finisher in 58th (2:18.64).

"I'm very pleased with our skiing," said Camden Hills coach Ryan Hurley. "Both the boys and girls skied well today. The girls skied within themselves and put themselves in the position to defend their KVAC title. We are looking forward to the second day of the competition and the Giant Slalom at Black Mountain on Tuesday."
