DEXTER — Lt. Alan Michael Grinnell, 61, detective lieutenant of the Dexter Police Department, was gently placed in the hands of his Heavenly Father on Nov. 17, 2014, of natural causes.

Born June 9, 1953, in Camden, he was the son of Arthur E. and Virginia (Chapman) Grinnell. A 1971 graduate of Camden-Rockport High School, he married Elizabeth McClellan on Oct. 21, 1971, whom he remained married to until his passing.

Alan had been a well-respected member of the Dexter Police Department since June 1990, when he signed on as a patrol officer. Alan could be found each Sunday leading the musical praise team at his church and he found much happiness through his faith in God. Alan will be so very missed by his family, church, police department and community. He will be remembered as a great man, friend and police officer.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Grinnell; four children, Spencer Grinnell and his wife, Jennifer, Christina Grinnell, Caitlin Grinnell-Coro and her husband, Wayne, and Carly Grinnell; a sister, Gloria Grinnell of Rockland; a brother, Art Grinnell and his wife, Kim, of Lincolnville; and a sister, Donna Scully and her husband, Kevin, of Waldoboro. He is also survived by his grandchildren, who loved him dearly, Spencer Alan, Michaela, Jared, Elijah, Alexandria, Kelsey, Kolten, Jessie, Zachary and Amara. He was predeceased by his parents; and his twin sisters.

In keeping with his wishes, interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Camden.
