ROCKPORT – Agnes Kent Webber March, 76, died peacefully on Jan. 12, 2017, at home.

Born in Rockland on Sept. 16, 1940, she was the daughter of Dr. James and Mary Flanagan Kent. Educated locally, she was a 1958 graduate of Rockland High School. Agnes attended University of Maine at Farmington for one year before beginning nursing school at Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston. There she earned her registered nurse and anesthetist degrees.

For many years Agnes was employed as an Anesthetist at Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast. While there Agnes made many friends and loved the work she did.

Agnes was a very active sportswoman. As a young woman she was involved in Future Teachers of America and always kept that passion. For many years she taught countless children how to swim with the Red-Cross, horseback riding and skiing. She took a liking to horses as a young girl, paying for lessons by cleaning stalls at the Samoset. She became an avid and decorated horsewoman, participating in competitive horse shows for most of her adult life. She had a great love and appreciation for horses, always keeping and caring for them at her home. She was also a member of the curling club.

Although she never had any children of her own, Agnes always had a number of them at her side. Whenever she attended a horse show, she would take a group with her. Over the years, she met many of her 'children' who would come up to her as adults and thank her for her influence in their lives.

Agnes had a great sense of humor and quick wit. She loved to tell jokes, especially if they were a bit racy. Storytelling was another one of her many talents.

Her passing leaves a hole in the hearts and lives of all who loved her.

Predeceased by her first and second husbands, Dr. Jack Webber and Mr. Richard March; a brother, James Kent Jr.; and a sister, Mary Grant; Agnes is survived by her beloved sisters, Carol Kent of Rockport and Patricia Boice of Rockland; a nephew, James Kalloch of Rockland; and two grandnieces, Makayla Kalloch of Rockland and Sarah Boice of New York City; as well as many cousins, and a large extended family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 150 Broadway in Rockland. A reception will follow at 104 Limerock, adjacent to the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home. Interment will be held in the spring at Village Cemetery in Thomaston.

In lieu flowers, donations may be made to Waldo County General Hospital or Make-A-Wish Foundation.
