Veggies for All: How one community fights hunger with a food bank farm

Event has passed

On Tuesday, October 6 at 6:30pm in the Belfast Free Library, Sara Trunzo, Director of Veggies for All (VFA), will provide an overview of how this community-based hunger relief effort operates and reflect on best practices and common challenges in efforts to achieve food security.

VFA, a project of Maine Farmland Trust, is a food bank farm located in Unity that works to relieve hunger by growing vegetables for those in need, while collaborating with partners to distribute and increase access to nutritious, quality food.  VFA has grown and distributed over 108,000 pounds of vegetables, engaged hundreds of volunteers in thousands of hours of community-based hunger relief, and serves ten food pantries to reach 1,500 food insecure, rural people in central Maine.  Learn more about how VFA does its work in Unity, including some tips, tested practices, and partner engagement methods you may put to use in your own rural community.

This free presentation is co-sponsored by the Belfast Free Library, Belfast Co-op, and Maine Farmland Trust.  The Belfast Free Library is located at 106 High Street in downtown Belfast.
