ROCKPORT — Maine Coast Heritage Trust invites the public to explore Erickson Fields Preserve at 124 West Street in Rockport during an Open Farm Day on Sunday, July 24. The preserve will host free activities from 10 am to 1 pm, including a StoryWalkTM recently installed along the preserve’s wellness trail.

After completing the 1.4 mile trail last fall, MCHT reached out to the Midcoast School of Technology in Rockland and the Rockport Public Library about installing a permanent StoryWalkTM at Erickson Fields to encourage families to get outdoors for story time. During the spring, students at the Midcoast School of Technology led by the Residential Construction instructor, Dan Dishner, constructed 16 wooden display cases, which MCHT placed along the wooded section of the trail. Each month the trail will feature a new children’s book courtesy of the Rockport Public Library.

During Open Farm Day, attendees will learn about the many agricultural related programs and workshops happening at Erickson Farm and sample grilled Aldermere beef and vegetables from the Teen Ag garden. Members of the Teen Ag Crew will give tours of their 2-acre garden, which produces thousands of pounds of vegetables to distribute to food pantries every year.

Maine Coast Heritage Trust owns and manages the 93 acre, conserved Erickson Fields Preserve. It has been designated a Forever Farm by Maine Farmland Trust. Erickson Fields Preserve is located at 124 West St. (Rt. 90) in Rockport. For more information, call MCHT’s Aldermere Farm office at 207-236-2739 or email jalbury@mcht.org.
