Mon, 04/01/2013 - 11:30am

On Monday, April 1, at 6:30pm in the Belfast Free Library at 106 High Street, Deb Soule of Avena Botanicals will speak about "Growing Medicinal Herbs and Flowers for Pollinators". An herbalist and biodynamic gardener, Deb will lead us through a colorful and informative slideshow and talk about a variety of medicinal herbs and flowers that grow well in midcoast Maine and the pollinators they attract. Her talk will include cultivation information and medicinal uses of the herbs discussed. She will also share a few stories about ruby-throated hummingbirds and the amazing migratory journey they make between Maine and Costa Rica.

Deb Soule is an herbalist, gardener, teacher and author of "The Woman's Handbook of Healing Herbs". Raised in a small town in western Maine, Deb began organic gardening and studying the medicinal uses of herbs at age sixteen alongside internationally known medical herbalist Mary Bove. Deb launched Avena Botanicals, now Maine's largest producer of medicinal herbs, at the 1985 Common Ground Country Fair. For more information, visit: avenabotanicals.com.
