Full Moon Ski & Snowshoe Hike at Aldermere Farm

Event has passed

ROCKPORT – On Monday, February 22 at 6:30 p.m., Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) will host a Moonlight Cross-Country Ski and Snowshoe Hike in the pastures of Aldermere Farm in Rockport to coincide with the full moon. Luminarias will guide the way along the groomed trails that run through the large open pastures at the farm as well as through some of the wooded areas. At the end of the trail, there will be a bonfire with hot chocolate.

Previous experience on skis or snowshoes is recommended. Participants should bring their own gear, including a headlamp or flashlight for the darker wooded sections. Everyone will meet at the main barn at 20 Russell Avenue at 6:30 p.m. and start the trail together at 6:40 p.m. Parking is on the roadside along Russell Avenue.

The tour is free to the public, but donations are appreciated, and reservations are required due to limited space. MCHT is also looking for volunteers to be guides or to bring baked goods to share, so please call the farm if you are interested in helping.

For those who cannot make the guided tour, Aldermere Farm's trails are open to the general public during daylight hours. There are two access points to the ski trails: (1) across the road from the Aldermere Farm sign near 20 Russell Avenue; (2) down the side road off Russell Avenue, across from Calderwood Lane (look for the open gate through the cattle pen).

For more information on the Moonlight Cross-Country Ski Tour, or to reserve space or volunteer to help, call Aldermere Farm at 236-2739, or email jalbury@mcht.org.
