Aldermere Farm in Rockport Maine will be hosting their annual Beef Basics Weekend July 27th & 28th. They are offering a series of workshops for seasoned or new cattle farmers or even for someone thinking about getting involved with raising cattle. Aldermere continues to bring the most up-to-date and vital information for farmers.
This year, participants can pick from two different two-day tracks. The first is Fitting & Showmanship, which also includes cattle selection, feed programs and at home prep suggestions along with actual hands on show day preparation. Participants will be walked through the entire process of getting a heifer ready for the show ring, starting from washing and hair training to clipping and glueing for show day. All ages are welcome. There will be some large group discussions and then particpants will be split up by experience in small groups for more intimate discussions and hands-on work.
The second course is their Artificial Insemination course ran by Amy Jasmine from Genex, Corp. Amy will discuss proper heat detection and other reproduction education. She will then walk you through everything you need to know to breed your own cattle including actual AI practice.
Fee: $30 Fitting & Showmanship
Fee: $50 Artificial Insemination
